Consistently voted as one of the most liveable cities in the world, there is much more to Toronto than its unique buildings and eye-catching structures. Behind this city’s iconic skyline, Canada’s most populous and most cosmopolitan city is home to a busy commercial centre, a thriving art scene, and a frantic nightlife that make it an essential stop for any curious visitor to this part of the world. For added kudos, North America’s forth-largest city by population can also boast to be the safest large metropolitan area. And as a city built for people, Toronto’s residents can enjoy relaxing in some of its 1600 named parks. Tranquillity in the city is never far away.

Location: The edge of Lake Ontario connected to the world

Toronto is served by a large international airport that welcomes an average of 86,000 passengers through its doors every day. It is used by 75 airlines, which serve 112 destinations. The city itself is located on the edge of Lake Ontario, which borders Canada to the North and the U.S.A. to the South. Being so close to several major cities in the United States, many U.S. destinations are reachable within a 90-minute flight.

Business: Important, innovative commercial centre

Commerce in Toronto is largely finance-oriented, and the city is home to the Canadian headquarters of the majority of large North American corporations doing business in Canada. Supporting legal and accounting organisations thrive in this environment, and the city boasts offices of cutting-edge businesses including Google, LinkedIn, and Apple. Located downtown, and overlooking Lake Ontario, Exhibition Place encompasses a number of Canada’s largest entertainment and commercial venues, and attracts over 5.3 million visitors every year. Its impressive portfolio of buildings includes the Direct Energy Centre with an enormous 1 million square feet of convention space.

Culture: A thriving Canadian art scene

Culture-seekers will be spoilt for choice here. Some of the most acclaimed attractions in the city include the Famous PEOPLE Players centre, which offers a unique dining and entertainment experience, and the AGO, Art Gallery of Ontario, with its eclectic mix of exhibitions. The Hockey Hall of Fame provides visitors with an insight into the history of Canada’s beloved sport, Ice Hockey.

Activities: Iconic attractions and relaxing green areas

The CN Tower is perhaps the city’s most iconic attraction, and a journey to the top in a glass elevator provides breathtaking views over the whole of Toronto. The city is also served by a number of green areas, such as Toronto Island Park, a peaceful retreat off the mainland but easily reachable by ferry. For those looking to explore outside of the city, Niagara Falls can be visited in a 1-day trip.
