Ce qui fait l’intérêt d’une ville, ce sont ses successions de quartiers aux étonnants contrastes. Paris n’échappe pas à la règle, bien au contraire, et présente différents visages. Certains sont plus prestigieux et l'affichent fièrement, rappelant qu’il fut un temps où les beaux quartiers résidentiels et bourgeois étaient au centre et à l’ouest de la capitale, tandis que les arrondissements périphériques, notamment à l’est, accueillaient les populations d’ouvriers chassés du cœur de Paris par la hausse des loyers. Ce sont ces derniers qui ont notamment fait la renommée du "village" de Belleville, comme le nomment affectueusement ses habitants actuels. Dans ce lieu historiquement à cheval sur les 10ème, 11ème, 19ème et 20ème arrondissements, le visiteur trouvera peu de monuments emblématiques, mais plutôt des espaces atypiques. Et si c’est une atmosphère qu’il recherche, il sera forcément conquis par celle qui se dégage de cet ancien petit bourg rural très prospère, annexé à la ville de Paris dès 1860. La colline de Belleville était alors réputée pour son ambiance festive et ses vignes qui produisaient le ginguet, un petit vin légèrement pétillant servi dans les cabarets où l’on chantait et dansait, et qui devinrent plus tard les fameuses guinguettes. Aujourd’hui, un petit carré de vigne est maintenu en souvenir de ces années d’insouciance, qui ont profondément marqué les lieux. Et si l’on parle de quartier populaire, il n'y a rien de péjoratif. C’est au contraire une qualité qui a permis à Belleville de se forger une renommée de quartier très vivant et accueillant. Pour s’en convaincre, direction le marché, sur le boulevard de Belleville : le dépaysement est total, du fait de l’ambiance cosmopolite très bon enfant, car depuis toujours, Belleville accueille les populations de migrants. Arméniens, juifs polonais, maghrébins, ou encore asiatiques ont ainsi tous participé à lui construire son identité. Et pour mieux saisir cette particularité, pourquoi ne pas tenter l’expérience d’une découverte avec un habitant du quartier, comme le proposent de plus en plus d’associations. Les guides, généralement bénévoles, font partager leurs coups de cœur et vous mènent à la rencontre des gens, là où vous n’auriez jamais osé aller. Cette façon d’appréhender autrement Belleville est forcément intéressante, tant la place recèle de lieux insolites, comme les magnifiques cours intérieures du Haut-Belleville, les petites impasses ponctuées d’ateliers d’artistes, le sympathique parc de Belleville, ou encore le célèbre cimetière du Père Lachaise. Une telle balade vous donnera certainement l’envie de demeurer plus longtemps dans ce quartier attachant. Dès lors, pourquoi ne pas réserver une chambre dans l’un des nombreux hôtels situés alentour. De plus, comme l'endroit est assez bien desservi par les transports en commun, il vous sera facile de rejoindre les grands pôles d’attraction parisiens.
