Style of hotel and ambience
You will be enchanted by this charming former 18th century water mill. The memory of Jean Pineau, the miller at this time, still lingers between its massive walls. In the old days, two large wheels rotated the grinding stones, producing flour and nut oil for the area. Situated in Poitou Charentes in the Southwest of France, 10 minutes away from Cognac and its world-renowned liquor storehouses, and less than one hour away from the Bordeaux vineyards, the hotel offers welcoming and confortable rooms, some of which are overlooking the river. An atmosphere of peace and serenity is emanating from this place, and during summer time, you can enjoy a walk in the lovely hotel grounds crossed by the river and the stream that once powered the mill. The cuisine embraces the greatest of local flavours, blending traditional country cooking with inventive dishes : the home made foie gras of duck marinated in Cognac will delight your palate.
Location of the hotel
The surrounding region is almost totally dedicated to the production of Cognac and Pineau des Charentes. The countryside abounds with vineyards and sunflowers fields. Most of the famous names as producers of Cognac are centred in the town but the contryside is full of lesser known but nevertheless excellent producers of the golden liquor. The old town of Cognac is waiting for you to discover its old buildings and alleys. During the summer you can take boat trips along the river Charente. AIf you are a golf lover, the Golf du Cognac, situated an easy and pleasant 20 mn drive from the hotel is a 18 holes course measuring 6148 metres from the back tees. (6723 yards) This friendly and open course is set in lovely surroundings with views over vineyards and the Charentais countryside. If you love Romanesque art, we can show you an original itinary that will allow you to visit the most remarkable roman churches of the Haute Saintonge.
