Most people staying in hotels in Billund are here for Legoland. Legoland Billund is like paradise to Lego fans, and includes an amusement park and the very popular Lego building areas where kids of all ages can go and create to their heart's content. An alternative to Legoland is Lalandia Billund, a tropical water park with water slides, pools, bowling alleys, golf courses, many other sports and outdoor activities for you and your family to enjoy.
Billund is one of the few major cities in northern Europe that does not have a major rail line. Your only options are to drive here, or fly. Conveniently the Billund Airport is quite a large airport, especially for a town of only 8000 residents, and it is well connected to cities across Europe. If you are driving to your Billund hotel, you can take the E45 to Kolding and then follow the signs to Billund.

When you have said Billund you must also say Lego. A hundred years ago there were only a few wind-swept houses but in 1914 the railway came to the village from Vejle. In 1916 Ole Kirk Christiansen started as a carpenter and woodcutter. He made ironing boards and stepladders but also began to make wooden toys. His first success was a yo-yo in 1932 and in 1934 his factory got the name Lego - which is an abbreviation for Leg godt - play well. In 1960 the wood stocks of the factory burnt down and thereafter Lego concentrated on making plastic toys. First and foremost in the form of the legendary Lego bricks which were marketed for the first time in 1948. The Lego factory established its own airport Billund Lufthavn in 1962. Lego also created LEGOLAND which opened in 1968. The cosy yellow-washed Billund Kro is situated in the middle of the town Billund and bids welcome to LEGOLAND guests and all others who wish to benefit from the excellent location close to attractions and activities. For example there are fine possibilities of golfing- fishing and walking tours in the neighbourhood or you may visit the trotting course Billund Travbane. After an active day you can return to the restaurant of the inn. Its menu card is inspired by the Italian cuisine but it also comprises large beefsteaks and good Danish inn specialties such as Danish steak and onions and Wiener Schnitzel.
