The Drakensberg Mountain Retreat offers its guests the opportunity to experience the magnificence of the Drakensberg with all the comforts of home. It is a great base from which guests can visit other points of interest in the Drakensberg, such as the Royal Natal National Park and the Amphitheatre.The Retreat is situated on the top of a mountain edge, the views are unsurpassed; with breath-takingly vast panoramic views of the Drakensberg Mountain Range and the northern Drakensberg. Guests often refer to the view as " the best in the Drakensberg." The hotel offers guests the choice of 9 unique en-suite rooms, all with very comfortable queen beds, some rooms have extra single beds to accommodate families and friends. The rooms vary significantly as a few have wood burning fire places and others offer the most spectacular views, especialy the rooms upstairs. The guest common areas are sprawled with couches and antique furniture, each area boasting the views of the Mountains through large wooden framed windows, guests feel at home here and it is a great place to enjoy the company of friends as well as just sit back and read your favorite book while sipping on some wine. The dining area is surrounded by large bay windows allowing you to enjoy the view during breakfast, where we serve delicious full English breakfasts each morning. At night you get to enjoy the stars and distant lights whilst being spoilt to a romatnic 3 course candle-lit dinner each evening. Our friendly staff take pride in preparing great meals, and providing for our guest needs with a smile. The retreat gives its guests the chance to explore over 800 hectares of wild Drakensberg, with hiking and biking trails riddled all over the property. The hiking trails are well marked and set out, giving guests the best possible hiking experience and the opportunity to see ancient San Rock Art sites dating back over 800 years ago, as well as magnificent waterfalls in the summer months. The mountain bike trails are superb and are for the whole family to enjoy, there are some more technical areas for the more advanced cyclist. One can also do a historical bike ride visiting all the Voortrekker monuments in the area. If you are interested in birds, this is a great venue to spot many birds of prey and other indegenous birds of the Drakensberg.
