The high technology of the companies in the area's business parks hide the fact that Aschheim was first settled in Neolithic times. In later years, the Romans came and set up camp here, and gave the town its name, which means 'Home near the Ashes.' The 17th Century church, which still stands in the town, was constructed on the 9th Century site of the original chapel. Being so close to Munich, it is no surprise that a large number of the 6,500 inhabitants commute daily to the city, which means that it is a relatively peaceful town to spend a day seeing the sights. Aschheim has also become a place for the adventure seeking visitor, with water-parks, a high ropes course, and driving experiences.

Location: At the centre of Bavaria

Only 12 kilometres east of the Bavarian capital Munich, and south of the scenic Speichersee Lake, Aschheim is close to airports and rail routes that make it easily accessible. Many local businesses make full use of the close ties to Munich, and are situated near the A94 Autobahn that runs south of the town.

Business: Close to all amenities

The town is an easy journey to the Munich Conference and Exhibition Centre, and as such, there are a few hotels that cater for the business traveller who may not wish to stay in the city. The Dornach Business Park is close by with a large number of IT companies and financial institutions having their base here.

Culture: A surprising breadth of talent in a small town

Aschheim has a very popular and well regarded Centre of Culture, Education, and History. Throughout the year, it holds theatre and classical music performances as well as literary readings and lectures that are well attended by locals and visitors alike. During the months of November and December, it also hosts a Christmas Market.

Activities: Full speed ahead for a wild time

An unassuming quiet town, it has a passion for adrenaline pumping activities. The BMW test track has been based here since 1972, and you can go for a spin with one of their drivers as they put one of their cars through its paces, and then have a drive yourself. If you want to go fast on the water, the Aschheim Water Park can get you wake boarding and water skiing before you know it, and for those that like viewing their scenery from above, the high ropes course can give you a thrill, and like the other activities mentioned, is open all year round.
