Lana - A Name that Doesn't Change
This small tourist destination in Italy began historically as an ancient fruit-growing village, taking this tradition into today's orchards. Location: In the Etschtal Valley
This municipality sits in northern Italy in the South Tyrol area. It is part of the Etschtal Valley and is located between Bolzano and Merano at the entrance to the Ultental. The landscape it dominated by Mediterranean-alpines. The village is easily reachable by car or train. The town takes up around 36 square kilometers and has an elevation of a little over 300 meters.

Culture: Christmas Tradition, 40 Churches, and Wellness
One of the most amazing things to experience in Lana is the Christmas Market held each year. Doors are open to visitors on the weekends where they'll find wooden market booths, souvenirs, and choirs holding concerts. Products are of hand-made or grown by local farmers. The city offers, year round, plenty of sightseeing opportunities including many monasteries, churches, and convents. Many of them are from the medieval period like St. Margareth's, and the parish church of Niederlana offers a look at Gothic architecture. Recently, the city has become a wellness destination as well. Travel up to the top of car-free Vigiljoch Mountain where its spring provides healing waters to the newly built spa.

Activities: Sports and Liesure at its Best
Lana's location at the Ulten Valley allows for hiking and cycling trails on exciting mountain routes that offer unique views of the rugged, lush landscape. Cycle racing is also something popular among the locals with stretches like the uphill Passo del Rombo peak at 2,509 meters. Many places offer bike rentals so that visitors can give it a try. In summer even more sports opportunities are available like rafting, parasailing, and mountain biking. There are even outdoor pools to swim in, many being natural springs. When winter comes around and the snow begins to fall a completely new sporting season takes over and visitors flock from all over to partake in snow hiking, skiing, and ice-skating.
