Linköping is the seventh largest city in Sweden, known in particular for its university and industrial excellence. For its scale, it is surprising that Linköping's university and conference centre are amongst the most important in all of Scandinavia. A hotel in Linköping will put you right in the middle of this.
What will I discover here that is unique?
During the twelfth century, Linköping was a major religious centre, and the cathedral dates as far back as 1128. The Conference and Congress Centre is the venue for international events, many of which relate to technological and social development, for instance, Ageing and Society. However, just as many conferences are purely business focused.
What will my business experience be like?
The commercial capital of Stockholm is 200 kilometres away and it is 40 kilometres to the major city Norrköping. This said, there are fast running trains connecting the city with the capital and major international airports. The Conference and Congress Centre in the city hosts numerous pan-Nordic events. As you might expect from a major Scandinavian conference centre, its design is state of the art and offers not only ergonomic facilities but healthy refreshments.
Linköping University also hosts business events and works with a range of corporate research partners. Collaboration is part of the university's intellectual DNA, and its lectures and events on entrepreneurship and innovation are interdisciplinary and forward-thinking. International networks and networking events are a priority for the university which seeks to conduct competitive research and establish what it calls 'multi-dimensional partnerships' with the international business community.
What can I do from my Linköping hotel in my leisure time?
Take a stroll from your Linköping hotel around the open air museum to the south west of the city centre. Gamla (old) Linköping has around 90 houses that are around 250 years old. This miniature town is self contained and has several craft businesses where you can buy traditional handmade items.
The cathedral is one of the most important religious buildings in all of Scandinavia. Nearly a thousand years old, it took almost five hundred years to build, and the Romanesque structure is a feat of engineering, even by modern standards. Linköping also boasts Scandinavia's largest skateboard park, hosting international competitions, and its sports clubs are immaculate and successful.
