Nerja – Melt in the year round sunshine!
Location: Seaside resort in Andalusia
Nerja is located about 50km east of Málaga on the Costa del Sol. It is a small seaside resort town in Andalusia, surrounded by the Sierra de Almijara Mountains. The town is most easily reached by car or bus from the Málaga Airport, and can be found along the A-7 and N-340 motorways.
Business: Semi-tropical fruit exports and tourism
Before tourism exploded here, the main industry was agriculture, particularly sugar cane. The town still exports a large variety of semi-tropical fruits, including mango and papaya, and the area is known as one of Europe’s largest avocado growing districts. But tourism is still the leading industry here and makes up much of the local economy. Business is best conducted in conference centres provided by some of the local hotels.
Culture: Enjoy the spirit of Andalusian culture!
Nerja is a town rich with Andalusian culture. Here, you’ll find tapas bars and paella vendors serving the local world-famous cuisine. Throughout the year, several festivals take place, including Mardi Gras, which results in exciting parties and parades throughout the day. The Balcón de Europa, a stunning square that occupies a part of the promenade, is a popular place to visit, as well as the Church of El Salvador and the Gardens of Capistrano Playa.
Activities: Visit the famous caves and learn to scuba dive!
There are plenty of activities to take part in while visiting. Undoubtedly, the most popular are the Caves of Nerja, a group of naturally formed caves just four kilometres from the city centre that are world-renowned. The area is also known as being the best place for scuba diving on the Costa del Sol, and there are more than enough beautiful beaches to visit. The centre is small but contains some great shopping and wonderful little cafés to help you enjoy this beautiful resort town.
