Archaeological findings tell us that this rea was inhabited 40,000 years before the colonization by Europeans, and descendants of these Aboriginal were still living there in abundance in the 1800s, calling the area Boorloo. Today, this Australian capital is at its economic peak and offers a plethora of entertainment opportunities for visitors. Residents get to say that they live in one of the world's most livable cities according to Economist Intelligence Unit. Much of its success came from its role as the main service center for the local resource industries extracting iron ore, gold, and more.

Location: On the Swan Coastal Plain

The city sits on the Swan River that was named so in the 1600s for the native black swans in the area. The suburbs as well as the city center are mostly on the Swan Coastal Plain, which is sandy and flat, and located between the Indian Ocean and the Darling Scarp. The Canning River also lies within the municipality. The Mediterranean climate makes December through late March hot and dry, while the rest of the year is mild and wet.

Business: Dominating the State's Economy

Perth's position as the state capital and its population have allowed for many diversified local businesses to develop, and the economy has been leaning more towards service industries in the last fifty years. While the city provides resources and agriculture, service providers employ most people. Retail and wholesale trade is particularly important.

Culture: Performing Arts and Festivals

Performing arts is a huge part of the city's culture, with several companies based here, including the Black Swan State Theatre Company and the West Australian Ballet. There is a youth orchestra to provide young musicians with opportunities. Many successful actors and broadcasters have launched their career in this town. Yearly festivals give locals and visitors plenty to do, encompassing local culture and popular music.

Activities: Malls, Markets, and Museums

There's a reason that Perth gets over three million visitors a year. Two of the most popular attractions are the Scitech Discovery Centre, an interactive museum, and the Western Australian Maritime Museum. The city center also contains many historical sites that tell the story of the city. Hay Street and Murray Street are full of shopping opportunities with more than just one mall as well as several arcades. Harbour Town in the west portion of the city also holds the Fremantle Markets dating back to 1897.
