Location: On the Spanish Costa Brava
Located in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, Tossa de Mar is a 1-hour journey from the region’s capital of Barcelona. The town’s closest airport is in Girona; however, flights are more frequent in the larger airport of Barcelona. There are frequent shuttle and bus services, which run from both Barcelona city centre and Girona airport, which are a convenient option for visitors.
Business: A small fishing village with a tourist economy
traditionally this has been a fishing village; however, in recent years the tourism boom has taken over and dominates the local economy. There is certainly no shortage of guest facilities here, and visitors will have no issue finding a hotel to sleep in or a restaurant to eat at. Many of the locals also make a living from attractions and you will find plenty of shops offering tours and services.
Culture: A seaside resort on the Mediterranean coast
The Vila Vella is perhaps the area’s most charming attraction and stands out from the city centre. It is a fortressed Old Town with a functioning lighthouse and many medieval towers, which are lovely to witness first-hand. The town is also home to a weekly farmers market, and there is a small history museum located near the city centre.
Activities: Let loose, enjoy the sea and the beach!
Tossa de Mar is the place to come for activities. If it is just relaxation you seek, the area is home to some beautiful beaches, which are ideal for sunbathing. Otherwise, there are plenty of water sports available for tourists to take part in, including scuba diving, swimming, and snorkelling. The clear, blue waters here are perfect for seeing what is under the water!
