St George Cathedral gazes down upon the town from its position upon the high-point of the town, the Limburger Rock. Shadowed by its neighbour, Limburg Castle is the building that the town grew around after its construction in the 9th Century. Limburg has always been an important crossing point of the River Lahn, and the first bridge was built in 1150 as part of the Via Publica. The old stone bridge that still crosses the waterway is an excellent example of medieval stonemasonry; it was built in 1306. Today, the town is still an important crossing point of the river for vehicles, trains, and pedestrians. The river, once a major route for trade, is now mainly used for tourist activities, and its banks have many areas for camping and recreation.

Location: At the centre of the Limburg Basin

Frankfurt International Airport, 63 kilometres to the south, is just 20 minutes away by the high-speed ICE train that runs through Limburg, or just an under an hour’s drive on the A3 Autobahn. Koblenz is 53 kilometres to the west. The town is situated in the fertile region between the Westerwald and Taunus mountain ranges, and whilst not spectacularly high at under 1,000 metres, they do provide a stunning backdrop to the town.

Business: A short commute to Frankfurt's business centre

With the ICE train linking Limburg an der Lahn to Frankfurt in under 20 minutes, the town is an excellent place to stay if you do not wish to stay within the confines of the city for your event. A number of excellent conference and exhibition facilities in nearby Wiesbaden and Frankfurt are within easy commutable distances.

Culture: Narrow streets and timber frame houses

The 'Old Town' delights visitors with its cobbled streets and 17th Century timber framed houses. The whole area has been placed under a historic monument protection order due to the number of ancient buildings that have survived almost untouched by damage of wars and time. The focal point of the town is the 700-year-old stone Lahn Bridge, the Alte Lahnbrücke. From here, you get marvellous views across the river to the old town and the Cathedral of St George that looks down upon it.

The 'Wappen von Limburg' is a city run tour boat that will gently take you along the Lahn, pointing out historic and interesting sites as you cruise between Dietkirchen and Balduinstein.
