This forward thinking has seen almost 10% of its electricity supply coming from domestic solar installation and almost 30% from hydro-electric power and puts it in the top tier of towns in Germany for renewable energy generation. With 22 kilometres of geothermal pipe work connecting 250 homes, Ismaning is securing its future with a well laid out and unobtrusive network of energy systems that only enhance the towns standing through 1,200 years of history. This history can be seen as you walk through the streets and parks and in the towns three museums and galleries.
Just outside of the E45/E52 ring-road of Munich to the west of the Speichersee can be found this charming little town. With just over 16,000 inhabitants, its compact size is dwarfed by the neighbouring city and makes it appear smaller than it actually is. The River Isar runs along its western edge and Munich airport is only 25 kilometres to the north and allows for easy international travel. As can be expected being so close to a major city, it has excellent road and rail links to the rest of Germany and Europe.
Munich's business centre with its wide range of exhibition and conferences centres is less than 20 minutes by train or car, and if you wish to avoid staying within the confines of the city, Ismaning is a perfect choice. Why not base your meeting in Ismaning itself? With a choice of hotels perfectly suited for conferences and meetings and being just 15 minutes away from the airport means that you can focus on your business in a quiet and peaceful setting.
It is quite easy to walk between the three museums and art galleries of Ismaning's Schlosspark and experience all they have to offer, but why not take your time and enjoy each one to its fullest. The Schloss Museum is based in the old palace and houses exhibitions on the cultural history of Ismaning along with a floor dedicated for temporary art and historical exhibitions. Next door is a gallery and museum dedicated to the life and works of the contemporary artist Hans Jürgen Kallmann and holds four exhibitions each year on other 20th century artists within the marvellous glass fronted building of the Kallman Museum. The Schlosspavillion Galerie in the centre of the park hosts a marvellous collection of art, sculpture, and contemporary graphics.
A gentle walk around the town and through its parks will open up a wealth of discovery of public arts, fine dining and excellent bars. As you walk around why not stop for a while at one of the small cafes and enjoy a coffee as you people watch. Further along your walk, dive into a small diner and talk to the owner about life in the town and listen to the pride they take in it. Before you have your evening meal, stop in a bar and join in the fun as a football game is played out on the television screens, or if you are lucky, a local handball game with Ismaning producing some of the finest players in the German leagues.
