On the historic route of the Hellweg, it is 50 kilometres from both Paderborn to the east and Dortmund to the west. Getting around is easy, thanks to the excellent Autobahn A44 and the regular ICE trains that service the town’s rail station. Dortmund and Paderborn both have international airports within an hour’s journey time.

Business: Former military buildings put to good use

The U.S., Canadian, and British Armed Forces have all been based at some time in the area. Since the last troops left, many of the buildings have been renovated for use by industry, but the University Campus, which is on the site of the old barracks, is world renowned for the success of its renovation and remodelling. Many businesses work in co-operation with the University of Applied Sciences with its many international students.

Culture: A variety of museums to explore

From the exciting Museum of Technology to the rich history displayed within the Burghofmuseum, you will find something to cater for everyone. A very interesting Fire Brigade Museum has exhibitions from the last three centuries. To see the military history of the area, take a trip to the Museum of City History in the old city gate Osthofentor, the only one that remains and is a piece of history in its own right.

Activities: Sport and recreation in ample supply

The Arnsberger Wald Nature Park is just 15 minutes away with mountain bike tracks and hiking trails. For more sedate activities, play a round of golf at one of the many courses in the area or try your hand at sailing on the nearby Möhnesee Reservoir, famous as the location of the raid in 1943 by 617 Squadron of the Dambusters.
