The town is also the location of a well-known castle that shares its name. The origins of the area and the castle are not known, but there is archeological evidence that there have been settlers in the area since ancient times. The castle is a significant attraction of the entire region, and from its base, visitors have a beautiful panoramic view that can reach Cologne on a clear day.
The city is located in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, in the district of Ahrweiler. It is easily accessible by car and by train. The closest airport is the Cologne/Bonn airport, which is about 80 kilometers from the city. Frankfurt International Airport lies about 160 kilometers east of Nürburg.

It is the highest castle of the Rhineland-Pfalz, and from the castle, visitors can see the Cologne Cathedral on a clear day.
The Nürburgring was created in 1925 to 1927 at a length of 25.35 kilometers, and is well known as the most challenging—and beautiful—track in the world. It has been rebuilt several times in its existence. Visitors can also enjoy riding the Nordschleife with an expert driver. Furthermore, the surrounding area offers beautiful trails for hiking and cycling, and during the winter, there are trails perfect for cross-country skiing.
