Telford is a new town in the county of Shropshire, located 48km from Birmingham and 21km from Shrewsbury. One of the fastest-growing towns in Great Britain, it is named after civil engineer Thomas Telford. A highly esteemed designer throughout his life, Telford worked on many rail and road projects in Shropshire. The town has attracted several large IT service companies in recent years. Tourism is another growing industry in the town and there are several hotels in Telford. Telford is dubbed “The Birthplace of Industry” due to its proximity to the Ironbridge Gorge area, where the Iron Bridge, the first bridge constructed entirely from cast iron, can be admired.

Telford Shopping Centre is a shopping mall in the centre of town, close to the large Town Park. Nearby, the Forge Retail Park contains a large Odeon Cinema showing all the latest films. There is also an ice-skating rink in the town centre.
