Dierhagen – A Vacationer’s Utopia

The small, charming village of Dierhagen sports a permanent population of less than 2,000 – yet manages to attract holiday travelers in search of a relaxing getaway, from across Germany and beyond, with its idyllic scenery and fantastic slew of activities. It’s a wonderful destination for outdoors enthusiasts, with camping nearly as plentiful as the hotels and restaurants, and everything from water sports to biking and horseback riding on tap. Beautiful at any time of year, even poor weather is no obstacle to enjoyment here, as an array of spas, bathhouses, and indoor sports remain for those escaping the elements.

Location: Germany’s Gateway to the Baltic

Dierhagen sits on the southeastern shore of Germany’s Fischland-Darss peninsula, in the north of the country and about 50 km from the airport at Rostock (Laage). Its proximity to the gentle Baltic Sea and inland lagoons has made it a great tourist destination for those who enjoy water sports, beachside walks, and any other form of ocean recreation. Those who enjoy nature and exploration in particular can make use of the extensive walking trails throughout the surrounding Nature Reserve Great Moor of Ribnitz (Naturschutzgebiet Ribnitzer Großes Moor).

Culture: An Idyllic Getaway on the Baltic Shores

This is a small municipality that’s primarily tourist-oriented – something that’s reflected in the local offerings. Dierhagen has developed a culture around fun and relaxation, with no shortage of facilities for everything from sailing, tennis, and camping to more pampering stays at the bathing and spa facilities. The beauty of the Baltic coast has inspired a number of established and amateur artists as well – those comfortable with a brush or camera may enjoy laid-back exploration of the shores, lagoons, and forests.

Activities: Waterfront Thrills and Nature Trails

Visitors can find both active and relaxing recreational options in Dierhagen. Challenge friends and new acquaintances to a beachside volleyball competition, or pit yourself against the forces of nature with some sailing, surfing, or water skiing. Those seeking contemplation that is more peaceful will enjoy the village’s many walking and biking trails in the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park (Nationalpark Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft). If you happen to be onsite in April, you won’t want to miss the Easter bonfire, while those visiting over the summer will have a number of festivals to pick from.
