After you collect your hire car, get onto the motorway, direction FUNCHAL, ca. 10 minutes and get off at exit #15 ,to Camacha, turn right and go up the hill, then you will find a round-about (Cancela). Turn left signed to Funchal keeping the gas station on your left. At the junction keep to the right, ER204 Funchal, carry along this road & after 1km you will find the village on your right.
