Located in Thüringen, Erfurt is the capital of the state and brimming with attractions, hospitality venues, and business opportunities. The area is served by Erfurt Airport, meaning it is well-connected for those travelling from both within Germany and further afield. Its location in the country's heartland enables business travellers to easily reach the city from major hubs like Berlin and Frankfurt. Erfurt lies just off two major motorways, the Bundesstraße 4 and 7, a benefit to visitors and the transportation of goods. Erfurt hotels can be reached in under 20 minutes from the airport or in a matter of moments from the central train station.
Erfurt city life is centred around the medieval main square, Domplatz. Many must-see attractions are situated in or around the square, including stunning St. Mary's Cathedral and St. Severus Church. For those with an interest in the ecclesiastical, there is no shortage of places to visit. The Augustinerkloster (the home of Martin Luther) and the Alte Synagogue, which dates to the 11th century, are both within walking distance of Domplatz. The square is also well-known for its annual December Christmas market and its many fairs and events throughout the rest of the year.
Though a relatively small locality by German standards, Erfurt certainly punches above its weight when it comes to business. The area is known for its success in the fields of mechanical and plant engineering, as well as microtechnology and photovoltaics. Though many of the factories, research centres, and production plants are located on the periphery of the city centre, most business travellers choose to stay in the heart of the city. The transport links are excellent and traffic jams almost unheard of. Conferences are often held at venues such as Erfurt Protestant Augustinian Monastery and SWE Stadtwerke Erfurt, which are both accessible from most hotels in the centre of Erfurt.
Escape your hotel in Erfurt and explore outdoors in the pretty Egapark, or relax down by the river next to the picturesque Krämerbrücke. Of course, no visit here would be complete without sampling the famous local Thüringer bratwurst, available at many stalls across the city for just a few euros.
