This town began as a small settlement filled with salt workshops, after a salt source was discovered here in the Middle Ages. The lucrative trade made it an important city, prompting the building of fortified walls around the city. It stayed wealthy when other cities failed to survive economic hardship. In the 1900s, it finally became known as the place of healing it is today. People come from all over the world to experience the thermal and salt springs that promise to relieve stress and improve health. Bad Salzuflen is home to the largest town parklands in the entire country.
This German town is at the meeting of the Salze, Bega, and Werre Rivers on the eastern edge of Ravensberg Basin. Though densely populated, the layout of the city allows for the feel of being in a village, because there are small districts with lovely half-timbered houses that surround a city center. The area has earned the nickname "Germany's healing garden" due to the saline springs that emerge from the geological folds within the town.
The city's economy is quite diverse, and the infrastructure is highly developed. With four bus routes and highway accessibility, getting around has become simple. Manufacturing is one of the main industries, and some items made here include venting, lighting, confectionary machines, and starch. In more recent times, healthcare and hospitality have become ever important.
Like anywhere else in Germany, those who live in Bad Salzuflen enjoy sports, particularly Women's Regional Handball and table tennis. Those who come here for sightseeing and historical and cultural attractions won't be disappointed. There are monuments all over town, the most well known being of the salt workers who built the town from the ground up. Also, the city hall has its own charm, offering a look back in time to 1530.
There are many events held in the city throughout the year, including numerous markets and a celebration of the salt workers, but what people really come here for is a spa treatment. Thermal and salt baths assist in healing body and soul, and other facilities encourage exercise therapy and healthy eating. After a day at the spa, you can take a relaxing walk through the hundreds of acres of parkland to get closer to nature. Stroll along the gradation works is also worthwhile.
