Halle, located in southern Saxony-Anhalt, is one of central Germany's economic centres. It is also home to one of the biggest and oldest universities in the country, the Martin-Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg. Halle is a thriving city in former East Germany. This, combined with fantastic opportunities for start-up companies, makes it an attractive business destination. It is also an ideal starting point to travel around the country, as it is well-connected to motorways, railways and the Leipzig-Halle Airport. Visitors here on business will easily find a suitable hotel in Halle, given the modern facilities available in town.
The city is not only an education and economic centre, it is also acknowledged as the cultural capital of the region. Take business clients to performances at the Halle Opera House or the Handel Auditorium. For a bit of recreation and culture at once, take a walk through the city centre to admire architectural monuments such as the Dom zu Halle, or cathedral. The Giebichenstein Castle is home to both a museum and an art univeristy. The Saltworks Museum is an interesting spot to visit for an introduction to the city's history in salt harvesting.
The city is home to quite a range of companies, including those working in solar technology, IT, media, and insurance. There are also a number of call centres based in Halle, and the city offers the second-largest technology park in former East Germany. Halle is a good example of a town that links its comparative advantage in education with the modern facilities of its business centre. The city hosts regular trade fairs, along with exhibitions in the fields of education, technology, consumer goods, leisure, tourism and management. Halle also offers twice-yearly job and career fairs.
Be sure to walk through the Altstadt, or historic centre, of Halle. Because this is a student town, there are charming restaurants, wine bars, and pubs aplenty, likely in convenient distance to your Halle hotel. For outdoor fun, head to the nearby Harz mountains for hiking and skiing. For further city sightseeing, Leipzig is a mere 40km away, and easily reached by motorway or train.
