Saalbach-Hinterglemm – Picturesque Austrian Ski Resort

Saalbach is a small town in the municipality of Saalbach-Hinterglemm that is well known for its skiing and winter sports. The region developed some renown when it hosted the Alpine Ski World Championships in 1991. There is a three-pistes network in the municipality that includes runs in Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Leogang. The highest points in the area are the Spielberghorn and the Hochkogel. Settlers have come to this area for a long time, with the oldest evidence dating to 1222, and the first church came to town prior to 1410. For most of its history, the town was merely an agricultural and farming town until tourists began arriving in 1945 to partake in the excellent winter sports of the area.

Location: Austrian Town in the Zell am See District

This Austrian town, located in the Zell am See district of the Pinzgau region in Salzburg state, is well-known for its skiing and snowboarding trails in the Austrian Alps. The closest airport is in the city of Salzburg, and the closest train station is in Zell am See. There is bus service and a winter-only ski bus to get around town.

Culture: Take a Breather from Skiing for Viewing Art

The town is well known for skiing, which is why it has a museum dedicated to it, the Local Museum and Ski Museum. If you want to get away from skiing and enjoy some art, visit the Gartenhotel Theresia gallery for modern art, which has artworks from well know artist including Ackermann and Warhol. The Studio Saalbach displays the artwork of Evi Fersterer. The Kunsthaus Nexus features music, theatre, and literary events.

Activities: Climb Above the Trees 365 Days a Year

Skiing, snowboarding, and other winter sports are the main activities for which Saalbach is known. There are numerous trails for skiing and snowboarding on both sides of the valley, including off-piste runs. The nearby Leogang is more popular with experienced snowboarders and skiers. The area also has 6 to 8 man chairlifts that have heated seats, as well as retractable covers, which keeps you warm during bad weather. There are also trails for winter hiking. During the summer, the area provides beautiful backdrops for hiking and mountain biking. Don't miss the Tree Top Path and the Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps, which is a 1 kilometer path that takes you along the top of the trees with stunning views.
