Glottertal is an ideal starting point to explore the surrounding tri-border area. This is where Germany, France, and Switzerland meet. Discover the beautiful old town of Colmar in the Alsace on the Alsace wine route. Alternatively, Basel in Switzerland is also worth a visit with its Gothic cathedral and old town. The town is situated in a small valley south-east of the Kandel Mountain. The sheltered valley enjoys a mild climate. It opens up into the River Glotter, which eventually flows into the Rhine. The town and surrounding area are rich in culture. Take a guided tour of St Peters Baroque monastery and church with the Prince's Hall and Rococo library. Visit St. Maregen Monastery Museum. In nearby Freiburg there are a wealth of diverse museums ranging from the Nature Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art and the Archeology Museum. Freiburg also has a lovely old town to explore.

Being an all-year-round resort, there are a multitude of activities to enjoy whatever time of year you visit. In summer, enjoy hiking or climbing on the highest mountain in the Black Forest, the Kandel Mountain. Full of streams, wilderness, beautiful panoramas and vantage points the area will enthrall you. Cycling and paragliding are also available for adrenaline junkies. In winter, ski through the snow-capped mountains or try your hand at sledging. The Kaiserstuhl, 'Emperor's Chair' range of hills is also within easy reach.
