Bad Griesbach im Rottal -- Healing Spa Resort
People have been enjoying the beautiful area surrounding Bad Griesbach im Rottal since the Middle Ages. The first mention of a settlement in the area was in 1076, when it was named Burggriesbach. This settlement was completely destroyed in 1504, but was soon rebuilt. In the 1970s, thermal waters were discovered, turning this town into a successful spa resort. There are three natural, fluoride-containing sodium-bicarbonate-chloride sources of the thermal waters that are used in the health and wellness centers to help with a variety of diseases, especially arthritis, digestive and metabolic disorders, and musculoskeletal problems. There are several health clinics and centers for rehabilitation and wellness in the city, and it is one of the largest WellVital centers in the area.

Business: Health and Wellness Tourism
One of the largest economic industries in Bad Griesbach is the health and wellness industry, although tourism due to the thermal waters is also an important economic industry of the town. The spa village also has a place for holding conferences and meetings. In 2007, the town renovated and converted the Kursaal to be an ideal meeting location that seats 450 people, and there are several hotels that feature conference centers.
Culture: History of Schnapps and Ore Mining
There are many beautiful buildings to see in town, especially the churches, including the ecumenical center Emmaus, a jointly built church between the Catholic diocese of Passau and the Evangelical Lutheran office of the Dean of Passau. There is a castle that features an art gallery. In the nearby Bad Griesbach Forest, visitors can visit a prehistoric iron ore-mining site. There is also a Schnapps museum in town.

In addition to the thermal waters in the spas, there are plenty of relaxing and rejuvenating activities to enjoy in this resort town. It features on of the largest golf resorts in Europe, with six 18-hole championship courses, three 9-hole, and two 6-hole courses. It also proclaims that it has the largest golf school in the world. There is also a fitness park in the spa, as well as many trails for hiking, Nordic Walking, biking, and horseback riding.
