Charles robinson recognized that, there was a desperate need for alternative, accommodations aside from tent city and the hotel, del coronado and set out to establish a bed and, boarding facility., MR. Robinson purchased two shotgun houses from, national city and had the palmer brothers, transport them by barge across the bay to coronado, island., The two houses disembarked at the glorietta bay, where they were hitched to a mule team and driven, to their current location and joined together with, a third already existing house., The cherokee lodge named after the cherokee roses, that lined the property in the late 1800s opened, its doors to the public in 1896 offering short and, long term lodgings to coronado visitors along with, two meals a day., Having been in continuous operation in coronado, for nearly 120 years the cherokee lodge is in age, and function second only to the hotel del, coronado.
