          Santa Barbara – Beautiful beaches are just a small part of the attraction

          This south-facing coastal city is famous for its long, sandy beaches and jagged coastline, but venture inland and you have some beautiful, cool, shaded forests and rugged wilderness. Founded by Spanish Franciscan monks, the city was built around the mission that was constructed in 1786, and even though it has been rebuilt after earthquake damage and expanded, the Santa Barbara Mission is still in use today by the Franciscan friars and can be used as a religious retreat for private guests seeking solitude. If that was not enough, why not visit the Santa Barbara Wine Country just a short drive outside of the city, and taste some fine wines in a spectacular setting.

          Location: Where Route 101 joins the California State Highway

          The city sits on part of the 87 kilometre route where U.S. 101 combines with California State Route 1. The Santa Ynez Mountains display their sandstone peaks behind the city as they rise to over 1,200 metres, occasionally showing glimpses of snow in winter. The University of California is located to the west of Santa Barbara, conveniently placed between the airport and long sandy beaches the region is famous for.

          The city hosts an annual Business Expo with the aim of promoting the visibility of local businesses and industrial leaders of the area to a wider audience. Building year on year with the number of attendees and speakers, the city is truly supporting the needs of its business owners and professionals.

          Culture: Take a tour of the Franciscan Mission building

          With landscaped gardens, a museum displaying the history of the area and wonderful church buildings, the tour of the Old Mission is an enchanting way to spend a few hours. Other, private tours are available of the art works and the La Huerta Gardens, but these must be arranged in advance.

          Activities: The American Riviera has something for everyone

          Beaches, mountains, gentle valleys, and a vibrant mix of cultures all combine to give Santa Barbara elegance and beauty that is unique. Visit during one of the many festivals and experience some fine wines, spot a movie star, view beautiful orchids, or just relax and enjoy the Summer Solstice. There are so many events in the calendar, it would be hard to visit without experiencing one of the celebrations of the local communities, be it a harvest of avocados or lemons, or the innovative eco-technology of the Earth Day festival.
